I found some nice color combinations in an illustration I saw and thought I'd apply them to something more to my aesthetics.  This was some experimentation in my sketchbook that I thought was interesting. Funny how it just reminds me of Thor now though, which wasn't really my intention, if he was a golden model. Haha.

  There have been quite a few owl commissions. The top is a sketch in watercolor and was a little too serious for the patron, and so the bottom 2 were made on wood panels, stained, and painted with acrylic. There is a 3rd in the set I was unable to take a picture of, of 2 owls, hopefully I can get one soon.

I was glad inspiration struck as I was going through some photos looking for a good one to start with this semester. I got the idea for a sudden spirit visitation, and I turned to some Chinese festival dragon costumes for some inspiration. So I finally got to finish the patina on my bronze work, it took a few weeks and a holiday, but I'm very satisfied with its outcome, I'm posting sneak peak shots of it, first of all because it needs to be lacquered before its completely finished, and second because it is a gift, and there should be some surprise left!

I really love this material in Sculpture class. It has a consistency of play-doh and once it dries, it solid! I've used Sculpey before with far less satisfactory results, it constantly chips or breaks off, and is very brittle, but this stuff, i wouldn't be afraid to drop! Although I wouldnt, lol.

ITS A BABY BRONZE GIRL!Today was really fun, we poured molten bronze into our ceramic shells, I got to pour mine and a few others, it was REALLY HOT! For my installation work I made a cocoon. I was told it came out looking more like a piñata but I suppose its because of the colors and layers, oh well I think it looks cool. I had the most trouble with the corn husks, painted and not. Absolutely nothing I had would make them stick to anything. Not Elmer's glue, not wood glue, not even super glue. So the next step in the bronzing process is to "sprew" the wax figure, create valves and vents for the bronze to flow through and fill the cast created by the wax figure, once its been melted out. I bought some fine graphite lubricant thats usually used to lubricate locks and things, to fill in the form of the body, it turned out to not be so difficult to use even though getting it out of the tube was a little difficult at times. The final phase is to fill in the tentacles, what will I do?!

In studio today I mostly worked on the graphite areas of the piece. I was actually happy thinking that it turned out better because of the practice I'd had over the summer doing the commissions for my co-worker. Critique went well for my wood sculpture. I think my jellyfish idea came across, one classmate said it reminded her of the Hellboy creatures. I like how it turned out for the most part. Today I had a couple of accidents with some power tools that proved to me beyond a shadow of a doubt that I don't belong in a shop. I have a battle scar to prove it! Things in studio have been moving slow due to my lack of supplies! I miss last semester when I had everything at my fingertips and my paint was always wet! So I did really well on my critique in 3-d Watercolor. The assignment was to create 10 small sculptures using harmony and variety. This is the paper mock-up of my wood sculpture I'm thinking of doing. The more I look at it the more it looks complicated, lol, but maybe I'll find a way of simplifying it.

So I've started my fall classes and looks like I'll be busy busy busy! Which is good because a lot of different art will come out of this semester, from watercolor, to 3-d paper sculpture to sculptures in wood, bronze, wax, etc. I'm excited about what will come out of the different classes and how the work will sort of relate across the board.

I just added the Bust of an Unknown Woman on my print site. This is one of my favorite little pieces I have. It was fun to make because I didn't plan any of the colors. So check it out!

So I managed to get a piece in time for the Mermaid Show, and it came out so nice! There was a lot of buzz about it, which I am very happy about and it sold on opening night, AWESOME! I was told more people were interested in purchasing it after it had been already. Katrina Doran the curator for the show and my friends mom, asked if I could do more pieces for next year, can I???! LOL. It was fun,

I photographed one of my friends, Rey Torres, in an actual shoot on Sunday, it was really fun! The photos are mostly for my reference, but some of them came out pretty cool.
